The Africa Cup of Nations is often a stressful and challenging environment for coaches, and this year has been no exception.
In the early stages of the tournament, Six coaches have already lost their jobs, These include Chris Hughton of Ghana, Djamel Belmadi of Algeria, Tom Saintfiet of The Gambia, and Loius Gasset of Ivory Coast.
All Six have paid the price for poor results, with their respective countries now looking for new leadership to take them forward. Hughton was the first coach to go, after Ghana’s poor performance, securing just 3point from 3matches.
Belmadi after Algeria’s disappointing end run against Mauritania, have been sacked by the Algerian FA.
Saintfiet and Gasset were also dismissed following disappointing group stage performances.
Tanzania has also suspended Ameouche, after CAF gave him Eight match ban.
CAF also fine the Tanzanian Football Federation $10,000 over what the coach talked about the Morocco.
He said “Morocco has influence for CAF to manipulate match scheduling and Officiating.
As for the Tunisian, Jalel Kadri says he has decided to step down as Tunisia’s head coach following their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Tunisia finished bottom of Group D having lost to Namibia and drawn twice against Mali and South Africa.
All six coaches now face uncertain futures, and it will be interesting to see where they end up next. For the teams involved, it’s a chance to start again with a new coach and fresh ideas.
