Following a harsh critique on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the Senegalese national team’s quick exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Krépin Diatta has been sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football CAF.
Diatta accused CAF of corruption in the aftermath of Senegal’s early departure from the AFCON 2023, Krépin Diatta did not hold back in his criticisms of the African Football Confederation (CAF).
Following Senegal’s exit in the round of 16 at AFCON 2023 after a loss to Ivory Coast, Diatta unleashed a tirade against CAF.
A widely shared video captured the AS Monaco player accusing CAF media officer of bias and corruption, exclaiming,
“You have killed us, you are corrupt. Keep your African Cup.” His allegations were reportedly reiterated to several onlookers, prompting CAF to initiate an investigation.
Diatta, who recently faced the CAF disciplinary committee, failed to present a convincing defense or evidence for his accusations, he has now been fined USD $16,329.88 and also given a four-game suspension, with two games suspended, rendering him unavailable for the next two official matches and necessitating caution in two additional games over the following year.
Moreover, Diatta and the Senegalese Football Federation are each fined 10 million FCFA, significantly affecting the team’s upcoming challenges under coach Aliou Cissé.
Notably, Diatta will miss a crucial match against DR Congo on June 3, 2024, for the World Cup qualifiers at the Me Abdoulaye Wade Stadium.
