The Africa Cup of Nations clash between Egypt and Ghana on Thursday, January 18, had the makings of a classic encounter.
In the first half, there was a notable incident that captured the attention of fans, involving Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah and the match referee, Pierre Atcho.
Mohamed Salah appeared visibly upset in the 18th minute, believing that there should have been a penalty in favor of Egypt after Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush seemed to be brought down in the box.
Contrary to Salah’s expectations, the referee deemed it an infringement by the Pharaohs and awarded Ghana a free kick. This decision led to a mini-meltdown from Salah, which was widely discussed on social media.
Expressing his displeasure with the decision, Salah confronted the referee. Instead of avoiding the confrontation, the referee stood his ground and exchanged words with the Liverpool superstar.
