The Federation of Ivorian Football (FIF) has fired head coach Loius Gasset after a poor performance.

The Elephant started the competition on a sound note beating the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau 2-0 before losing to Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.

The Federation having considered the performance too poor to bear and decided to sack the manager despite still having a mathematical chance of reaching the last 16.

”The President of the Ivorian Football Federation and its Executive Committee inform the Member Associations, the sporting public, the national and international Press and all supporters of the Ivory Coast Football Team (the Elephants) that the contracts of Selector-Coach Jean-Louis André Lucien Gasset and his Deputy Ghislain Marie Joseph Printant are terminated for insufficient results, by the objective contract which linked them to the FIF”, the statement read.

The Ivorians still hope to qualify for the round of 16 by finishing among the best 3rds in the outcome of the game between Zambia and Morocco.
