The Senegalese Junior Teranga Lions have dashed Nigeria’s hopes of winning a medal at the ongoing 2023 African Games in Ghana through the Flying Eagles.
The Flying Eagles lost the last group game 3-2 despite having the early advantage due to the 10-man Senegalese team’s potent attack.
Charles Agada gave Nigeria the lead early in the match, but Senegal took control when Idriss Gueye scored twice.
In the 50th minute, Favour Izuogu tied the score for Nigeria, and Senegal’s victory was sealed by Famara Camara’s penalty kick.
Nigeria had defeated South Sudan 1-0 in the second match of the competition after losing to the Ugandan Hippos in the first.
The Ladan Bosso-led squad ended third in Group B with three points following the defeat to Senegal.
They lost two games and were unable to advance to the men’s football semifinal of the 2023 All African Games.
