Angel Di Maria, the legendary Argentine forward, has announced his retirement from international football after winning one more Cup with his national team.

 

Di Maria made the announcement following Argentina’s victory in the Copa America 2024 final against Colombia, saying, “It was my dream to retire from national team like this, Argentina is my love and my country. Thank you”.

 

Di Maria had previously announced that the 2024 Copa America would be his last tournament with the national team, ending a 16-year run with the Albiceleste.

 

During his international career, Di Maria made 145 appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 32 assists. He played a crucial role in Argentina’s recent successes, including their 2022 FIFA World Cup victory and their 2021 and 2024 Copa America titles.

 

Despite retiring from international football, Di Maria will continue to play for Benfica in the Primeira Liga for one more season. He rejoined the Portuguese club last season after a 13-year absence and has been instrumental in their success.
