Week 8 of the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) bore witness to the biggest win of the season so far, as Plateau United yesterday defeated visiting El-Kanemi Warriors 5-0 at the New Jos stadium in the Match Day 8 of the 2022/23 abridged Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.

The home side got off to a dream start when Sunday Anthony opened the scoring in the 2nd minute and 17 minutes later, Jackson Eru made it 2-0.

That goal signalled it was going to be a harvest of goals as the home side got the third in the 27th minute through Ibrahim Mustapha who scored with his trademark header and later apologized to his home club.

At the restart of the second half, the Peace Boys who were still thirsty for more goals were duly rewarded with the fourth in the 63rd minute when Michael Tochukwu scored from the spot and two minutes into stoppage time, Uche Onwuasanya, put the icing on the cake with the fifth goal.

Newcomers, Bendel Insurance are still waxing stronger and stronger after eight matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season.

The Benin Arsenals extended their unbeaten streak in the Nigerian top-flight to eight games after a hard-earned 1-0 victory against Nasarawa United at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Wednesday night.

Bendel Insurance have won six and drawn two of their eight games.

Monday Odigie’s side are the only team yet to taste defeat in the NPFL this season.

Insurance continue to set the pace in Group A with 20 points, four points better than Enyimba, who are in second position.

 

Elsewhere, Akwa Ibom side Dakkada FC have ended their losing streak following a hard-earned victory over Sunshine Stars in Uyo.

Dakkada defeated their visitors 2-1 to put an end to a run of five matches without a win or a point in the league.

Sunshine’s Ejike Uzoechi set them on the path of victory when he netted an own goal to put them ahead after the hour mark.

But 13 minutes later, Sunshine Stars were level as Udom Edem Ekerette equalised to make it 1-1 with 15 minutes to play.

Abdoulaye Karim Doudou became the hero of the day when he scored what turned out to be the winner two minutes after Ekerette’s leveller for the Stars.

With the victory, Dakkada have now registered their first win in five matches, putting an end to a run of five successive defeats which saw them drop into relegation waters.

Niger Tornadoes and Bayelsa United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw while resurgent Wikki Tourist inflicted the second defeat of the campaign on Group B leaders, Lobi Stars in Bauchi via 2-1.

Joseph Atule and Kumaga Suur failed to find their shoe size as they were expertly caged by their host in Bauchi.

in other Centre, Doma United defeated Abia Warriors by a lone goal.

Meanwhile, Akwa United will trade tackles with Gombe United today but the match between Rivers United and Rangers has been postponed indefinitely.
