Nigeria forward, Asisat Oshoala has completed her move to National Women’s Soccer League side, Bay FC in the United States of America (USA), for a two-year deal, with an option of 12-month extension.

Report had it that the 29-year-old left the Spanish city of Barcelona early this week to arrive at the NWSL club base, Bay FC in San Jose on Tuesday, as corroborated by US sources.

The six-time Africa Women’s Player of the Year completed her switch to the new NWSL franchise from European champions, FC Barcelona finally was unveiled on Thursday, keeping her at Bay through to 2026.

In her appreciation message to her club,

“As I bid farewell to this incredible team and the city that has been my home for the past 5 years, I am filled with mixed emotions. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to wear the @fcbfemeni jersey and represent this prestigious club”.

“Since joining the team in 2019, I have had the opportunity to be a part of some of the most memorable moments in the club’s history. Together, we have lifted several trophies and these achievements are a testament to hard work, dedication and I feel privileged to have been a part of this team”.

“But beyond the trophies and accolades, what I will cherish most are the relationships I have built with some of my teammates, coaches, staff and the amazing fans. You have become my family and I will forever be grateful for the love and support you have shown me”.

“As I embark on a new journey, I want you to know that @fcbfemeni will always hold a special place in my heart. I will carry with me the memories, lessons and friendships that I have gained during my time here”.

The acquisition of reigning African best swells the sense of postivity around the NWSL outfit ahead of the 2024 season, following the signing of Venezuelan international Deyna Castellanos from Manchester City.

The move increased the number of Nigerian players in the NWSL to four, with Uchenna Kanu (Racing Louisville) and Michelle Alozie (Houston Dash) among the other Nigerian players in the American championship.

She will aim to spearhead the club’s attack, giving her the chance to continue her professional jourey with regular playing time when they kick off their inaugural NWSL season against Angel City on March 17.
