The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed controversial Tunisia referee for the Champions League first-round, second-leg clash between Wydad Casablanca of Morocco and Nigeria’s Rivers United, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.

The encounter is billed for Mohammed V Sports Complex on Sunday, October 16th.

Rivers United won the first leg 2-1 on Sunday at the Adokiye Amasiamaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

However, it will be recalled in April, where controversial referee Sadeq Selmi was punched and knocked down after Moroccan club Renaissance Berkane reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Egypt’s Al Masry.

The Tunisian referee was allegedly assaulted by an Al Masry technical staff following what was a fiery match.

The home team won the match 1-0 after converting a controversial penalty, by advancing to semifinals through away goals in a tie that ended 2-2.

It was also recalled early less than two weeks under Sadeq al Salmi, Nigeria failed to qualify to the 2022 Qatar World Cup after drawing 1-1 with rivals Ghana Black Stars at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

According to the update from African soccer hovering body CAF , the Tunisian referee will be assisted alongside Al-Sadiq Al-Salmi, Ayman Ismail (first assistant referee) and Khalil Al-Hassani (second assistant referee).

Amir Al-Wasif will be the fourth referee for the match.
