Rivers United secured their second win in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup by defeating Congo’s DC Motema Pemebe 1-0 on Sunday, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.

It became the second group stage victory for the Nigerian champions, enough to see them go top of their group on Sunday.

The game played at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, Angola was decided via a 53rd-minute goal via midfielder Paul Acquah.

The Ghanaian winger found the net from a rebound after his initial header off a Denis Ndasi’s flick was blocked by the keeper.

Defender Ebube Duru was dismissed for a second yellow card with three minutes before half time, but despite that, the Stanley Eguma led side grinded out a valuable win.

Following ASEC Mimosas 2-0 win over Diable Noirs, Rivers United move top of Group B with six points from three matches, two points ahead of ASEC who pushed Diable Noirs to third.

Rivers United will next face Motema Pembe in the reverse fixture at the Godwill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Wednesday, March 8.

Before then, the Stanley Eguma side will honour an outstanding NPFL match-day nine fixture against Abia Warriors on Saturday April 4 in Umuahia.
