It may have just been a dream for Wydad Casablanca to just qualify for the group stage of the CAF Champions League, it turned to a nightmare for Nigeria’s Rivers United whose name were almost fully spelt with goals, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.
The match in Casablanca, which had Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro in attendance, saw both sides start the game looking to exploit the other’s weaknesses. The home side, however, were able to punish their visitors with no mercy.
El Amloud open scoring for the hosts 32nd minute before Jabrane made it 2-0 just before the half time.
The hosts continued their dominance early in the second half B.J Sambou increased the decifit to 3-0 in the 49th minute.
Sambou completed his brace in the 56th minute and Jabrane also did the same in the 69th minute to make it 5-0.
Ahadad completed the rout in the 90th minute and handed Wydad a 7-2 aggregate win over Nigeria’s champions Rivers United.
Rivers United lost on aggregate by seven goals to two and will now continue their continental campaign in the playoff rounds of the CAF Confederation Cup. The Nigerian side will hope to save face in the second-tier competition alongside Plateau United.
