Cameroon goalkeeper, Ange Gabrielle Bawou was the star of the show as Bayelsa Queens defeated TP Mazembe 2-0 in their CAF Women’s Champions League Group B encounter in Marrakech on Thursday night, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.
Bawou made a number of superb saves in the game to help the Prosperity Ladies bounce back into reckoning after the 2-1 defeat to defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns in their first game.
Prosperity girls took care of business in the first half of the game to keep their hopes of advancing from the group alive.
Ogoma Joseph scored the first goal of the game in the third minute from a spot kick and Chinyere Igbomalu scored the second goal in the 24th minute.
Bayelsa Queens could have easily ended the first half with a 5-0 margin but just as they did in the first game they squandered all of their chances.
They were wasteful in front of the goal, indecisive, and just seeking individual glory – they could have paid for their missed chances but Cameroon International goalie Bawou Gabrielle saved two sure goals.
She kept the team in the game and ensured the half ended 2-0 in favour of Bayelsa Queens.
Bayelsa Queens were just not in the game for the most part of the second half escaping what could have been a penalty to TP Mazembe in the second half.
Flamingos stars, Edidiong Etim, and Mary Aderemi who returned to their club yesterday just as we reported also played a few minutes in the win.
Bayelsa Queens will play their last Group B game against Egyptian Wadi Degla on Sunday, while Sundowns will play TP Mazembe.
Holders, Mamelodi Sundowns meanwhile, maintained top position in the group after thrashing Wadi Degla 5-0.
