Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team known as the Flamingoes recorded a 3-1 victory against Galatasaray Ladies in Turkey ahead of their preparation of 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup slated for India, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.
The Flamingos departed the country for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India stopping over in Istanbul Turkey.
The friendly match between the Flamingos and the Turkish women’s club, Galatasaray took place in the town of Kocaeli
The Flamingos have a 10-day training camp ahead of this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals in India.
Opeyemi Ajakaye put Nigeria upfront in the 26th minute of the encounter,
Edidiong Etim double the Flamingos advantage eight minutes later, while the hosts club Ebru Topliv reduced the deficit for Galatasaray just one minute before recess to ensure the half time ended 2-1 in favour of Nigeria’s glory-chasing girls.
In the 77th minute, Bayelsa Queens forward Edidiong Etim scored her second of the game as the Flamingos held on to record a 3-1 victory.
The victory comes hours after Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau was elected as the new President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Meanwhile, Coach Bankole Olowookere praised the girls for the competitive spirit they showed in the match and is confident this would be a positive for the team’s campaign at the FIFA World Cup finals.
The Flamingos will be slugging it out with one of the toughest nuts to crack when they take on Germany in their first match of the campaign in Goa on Tuesday, 11th October, before other games against New Zealand and Chile.
