The President of Liberia George Weah who is 51 played for 79mins in an international friendly for his country against Nigeria.
Weah, is the first footballer to become a presedent and first African footballer to win Fifa’s World Player of the Year award. The first African President to play for his country as a sutting president. You will recall that Weah, played for 79 minutes in his country’s 1-2 home loss to Nigeria in Monrovia.
Searching through the statistics, Weah is now the oldest ever player to play in international football. Previous oldest player, according to statistics site rsssf (rsssf.com/miscellaneous/…), is Yorghos Koudas of Greece – who was 48 when he played his last international.
Liberia arranged yesterday’s friendly to retire jersey number 14 shirt, worn by Weah during his active playing days.
