According to New York Times, Juventus will not play any of their pre-season International Champions Cup fixtures in the United States next summer.
The Italian side have confirmed their participation in the pre-season competition. But according to NYT, the event organizers have decided to ensure that Juventus avoid playing any of their fixtures in the US so as to not to run the risk of Cristiano Ronaldo being detained by the US authorities in relation to the rape allegations against him.
Ronaldo who is currently under investigation by the Las Vegas police after former model Kathryn Mayorga claimed the Portuguese footballer had raped her in a hotel room in Las Vegas in 2009. He subsequently paid her $375,000 to buy her silence. Ronaldo and his lawyers have since denied the rape allegations made by Mayorga.
As a result of the ICC organiser’s decision, Juventus will play all of their ICC fixtures in Singapore and China, so as English clubs Tottenham and Manchester United. Juventus are set to officially announce their pre-season plans in the coming weeks.
