Josh Maja was on target as Bordeaux defeated Dijon 2-1 to help their quest for a Ligue 1 return, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.

The forward inspired the Girondins to a win over Dijon in Saturday’s Ligue Two outing.

Maja opened scoring for Les Girondis from the spot in eight minutes, before Mickael Le Bihan restored parity for the visitors in the 71st minute.

It was the 23-year-old’s fifth goal in nine league appearances for Bordeaux this season.

The striker rejected a move to Sky Bet Championship club, Birmingham City this summer.

With three minutes left on the clock, Zurab Davitashvili scored the winner for David Guion’s men having been teed up by Aliou Badji.

The win took Maja’s Bordeaux, on 17 points, to the top in the league table after nine games played.
