Paris Saint-Germain have moved into pole position to sign Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and are on the verge of beating off competition from Arsenal, AbbeyLiveNetwork News can confirm.

The French club are believed to have reached verbal agreement with the midfielder and are willing to pay his €50m release clause although talks are still ongoing between the player’s representative and the club.

ALN News has learnt that Partey has held preliminary discussions with both interested clubs but has chosen the Paris-based outfit as his preferred destination.

The 27-year-old Ghanaian preference for the French titleholders can be attributed to wanting a guarantee for Champions League football and trophies.

PSG are worried about a lack of depth in the midfield despite the signing of Idressa Gueye and Ander Herrera last summer and are working on reinforcement.

Partey, who joined Atletico’s first team in 2015, is unlikely to extend his stay at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium beyond 2023.
