German Bundesliga 2 club Schalke 04 are eyeing a move for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu, who is currently on the payroll of Southampton, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.
Schalke 04’s interest was first revealed by German newspaper Bild, as cited by 90min.
However, the 29-year-old struggled to find his form and consistent playing time in the Premier League.
During his 11 appearances in the English topflight, he was unable to score a goal as Southampton suffered relegation to the English second-tier.
Loan with purchase option in case of promotion?
Belgian transfer experts report that Onuachu is likely to only go on loan. For Schalke, a loan deal would be lucrative given the ailing financial situation.
According to the reports, the Schalke 04 bosses are pursuing the plan to include a purchase option in a possible loan that could be drawn in the event of direct promotion.
However, the probability of an Onuachu transfer to FC Schalke 04 is relatively low. Because: With Union Berlin , Eintracht Frankfurt , Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart, four Bundesliga teams are interested in the Nigerian – a big advantage.
