Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman scored the opener for Atalanta, but Osimhen hit back for Napoli to power the Partenopeans to a 2-1 victory, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.

Napoli traveled to Atalanta in a crucial top-of-the-table clash. Victory for the Partenopeans would have given the Partenopeans some comfort at the top of the table, while a victory for Atalanta would have cut Napoli’s lead to two.

Atalanta took the lead after only 19 minutes through the in-form Lookman after Osimhen conceded a penalty. Lookman stepped up to fire home from the spot and put Atalanta ahead with his sixth goal of the season.

Twelve minutes later, Osimhen turned provider, as he set up Eljif Elmas, who rifled the ball into the net in the 32nd minute.

Both teams huffed and puffed in the second half, but they had to settle for a 2-1 result.

The win gives Napoli an eight-point cushion at the top of the Serie A. Lookman remains the highest goalscorer at Atalanta.

Osimhen’s goal ensures that he becomes the highest-scoring Nigerian in Serie A history. The 23-year-old hitman now has eight league goals this season.
