• Nigeria Set to Be Drawn With Either Algeria, Morocco, or Senegal in 2023 AFCON

The anticipation is building as Africa’s premier football tournament, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), draws closer to its 2023 edition hosted by Cote d’Ivoire, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.

With the qualifiers now concluded, the focus shifts to the all-important draw that will determine the groups for the tournament.

The Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana find themselves among the teams in Pot 2, and the upcoming draw, scheduled for October 12th, will decide their opponents and set the stage for a thrilling competition.

Nigeria are currently sixth in the CAF rankings, but won’t be in Pot One. They will be replaced by the host nation Ivory Coast, since all the top-ranked teams from 1-5 are in the competition.

It means that the Super Eagles will face one of Ivory Coast, Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, or Egypt in group stages of the competition next year.

Nigeria are in Pot Two alongside Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, and South Africa. In Pot Three are DR Congo, Cape Verde, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania.

Pot Four consists of Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, Gabon, and Tanzania.

It could be recalled that Super Eagles sealed qualification with one game to go and ended the qualifying series with a resounding 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Nigeria, one of Africa’s football giants, stamped their ticket to the tournament by finishing atop Group A with an impressive 15 points.

The Super Eagles showcased their dominance throughout the qualifiers, demonstrating their intent to reclaim the continental glory they last captured in 2013.
