Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured a fourth bronze medal at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles 4-0 in the third-place match on Friday afternoon, Abbeylivenetwork.com reports.
Goals from Ibrahim Muhammed and Ahmed Abdullahi and a brilliant brace from Jude Sunday crushed the resistance of the Tunisians at the Cairo International Stadium.
Nigeria dominated the match from start to finish, with their attacking prowess and solid defense proving too much for Tunisia.
Resourceful forward Ibrahim Muhammad got Nigeria’s first goal of the match in the 9th minute.
The goalkeeper made two silly errors and his howler nearly caused the Flying Eagles to give up their lead but the goal was chalked off following a VAR review.
The Flying Eagles were sloppy in their play and this allowed the Young Carthage Eagles gain momentum in the first half.
However, two quick fire goal early in the second half, first from Ahmed Abdullahi a minute into the second half.
Jude Sunday then made any hopes of a comeback for Tunisia almost impossible with his strike in the 48th minute.
The resurgence from Ladan Bosso’s boys reinvigorated the Nigerian supporters in the stands whose singing voices at some point were lost with the Tunisians trying frantically to get something respectable from the game.
Jude Sunday had some moments to double his goals and further make the score more comfortable but he fluffed the chances.
The forward however created a fantastic scoring chance for Olamilekan Adam’s but the latter was unable to reach the ball with the weight of the pass making it impossible to cause any damage.
Afterwards, goalkeeper Aniagboso made a brilliant one-handed save to push away a shot from distance away, handing the Tunisian a a corner kick.
Sunday then grabbed his brace in the last minute of normal time as he received a pass from Samson Lawal and crashed a fierce shot into the top left corner.
